ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Although life satisfaction is a predictor of depressive and anxiety symptoms, the mechanisms underlying this association are poorly understood. This study examined how psychological capital (PsyCap), a positive psychological state, mediated the association between life satisfaction and depressive and anxiety symptoms among Chinese medical students during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted at three medical universities in China. A self-administered questionnaire was distributed to 583 students. Depressive symptoms, anxiety symptoms, life satisfaction, and PsyCap were measured anonymously. A hierarchical linear regression analysis was performed to explore the effects of life satisfaction on depressive and anxiety symptoms. Asymptotic and resampling strategies were used to examine how PsyCap mediates the association between life satisfaction and depressive and anxiety symptoms. RESULTS: Life satisfaction was positively associated with PsyCap and its four components. There were significant negative associations between life satisfaction, psychological capital, resilience, optimism, and depressive and anxiety symptoms among medical students. Self-efficacy was negatively associated with depressive and anxiety symptoms. Psychological capital (a×b = -0.3201, BCa 95% CI: -0.3899, -0.2446; a×b = -0.2749, BCa 95% CI: -0.3817, -0.1996), resilience (a×b = -0.2103, BCa 95% CI: -0.2727, -0.1580; a×b = -0.1871, BCa 95% CI: -0.2520, -0.1414), optimism (a×b = -0.2100, BCa 95% CI: -0.3388, -0.1150; a×b = -0.1998, BCa 95% CI: -0.3307, -0.0980), and self-efficacy (a×b = -0.0916, BCa 95% CI: 0.0048, 0.11629; a×b = 0.1352, BCa 95% CI: 0.0336, 0.2117) significantly mediated the association between life satisfaction and depressive and anxiety symptoms. LIMITATIONS: This was a cross-sectional study, and causal relationships between the variables could not be ascertained. Self-reported questionnaire instruments were used for data collection, which may have recall bias. CONCLUSIONS: Life satisfaction and PsyCap can be used as positive resources to reduce depressive and anxiety symptoms among third-year Chinese medical students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Psychological capital and its components (self-efficacy, resilience, and optimism) partially mediated the relationship between life satisfaction and depressive symptoms, and completely mediated the relationship between life satisfaction and anxiety symptoms. Therefore, improving life satisfaction and investing in psychological capital (especially self-efficacy, resilience, and optimism) should be included in the prevention and treatment of depressive and anxiety symptoms among third-year Chinese medical students. Additional attention is needed to pay for self-efficacy in such disadvantageous contexts.

ABSTRACT

AIMS: To systematically evaluate the effect of horticultural therapy (HT) on older adults in pension institutions. DESIGN: Systematic review was conducted based on the checklist for PRISMA. METHODS: The searches were conducted in the Cochrane library, Embase, Web of Science, PubMed, Chinese Biomedical Database (CBM), and the China Network Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), from their inception until May 2022. In addition, manual screening of references of relevant studies was performed to identify potential studies. We conducted a review of quantitative studies published in Chinese or English. Experimental studies were evaluated using the Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) Scale. RESULTS: A total of 21 studies involving 1214 participants were included in this review, and the quality of the literature was good. Sixteen studies were Structured HT. The effects of HT were significant in terms of physical, physiological, and psychological aspects. In addition, HT improved satisfaction, quality of life, cognition, and social relationships, and no negative events were found. CONCLUSION: As an affordable non-pharmacological intervention with a wide range of effects, horticultural therapy is suitable for older adults in pension institutions and is worth promoting in pension institutions, communities, homes, hospitals, and other institutions that require long-term care.

ABSTRACT

Being married has been associated with a better attitude to aging and a buffer against stressful situations, factors that influence mental health. The study analyzes the role of self-perceptions of aging and stress related to the COVID-19 pandemic in the association between marital satisfaction and participants' mental health. 246 people older than 40 years in a marital/partner relationship were assessed. A path analysis was tested, where self-perceptions of aging and stress from the COVID-19 situation were proposed as mechanisms of action in the association between marital satisfaction and anxious and depressive symptoms. Marital satisfaction, self-perceptions of aging, and stress associated with the COVID-19 pandemic significantly contributed to the model and explained 31% of the variance in participants´ anxious symptomatology, and 42% of the variance in depressive symptomatology. The indirect path of self-perceptions of aging and stress associated with the COVID-19 pandemic in the link between marital satisfaction and anxious and depressive symptoms was statistically significant for both outcome variables. The findings of this study suggest that lower perceived marital satisfaction is associated with higher levels of negative self-perceptions of aging and with higher anxiety and depressive symptoms. Public significance statements: This study suggests that higher marital satisfaction may be a buffer for negative self-perception of aging, and both factors are related with experiencing less stress from COVID-19. These links are associated with less anxious and depressive symptoms.

Increased time spent together and the lockdown resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic may have created new scenarios for marital conflict. We analyzed how home confinement affects avoidantly attached individuals': (a) resolution strategies to cope with couple conflict, (b) perception of partner's resolution strategies, and (c) overall relationship satisfaction. The sample comprised 549 individuals, divided into two subsamples: (a) the confined group, individuals confined with their partners (n = 275); and (b) the comparison group, coupled individuals from a dataset collected before the pandemic (n = 274). Results indicate that the proposed model works in different contexts (non-confinement and confinement situations), but there are some significant differences in the magnitude of some of the relationships between the variables, being stronger in the confinement group than in the comparison group. In the confined group, in individuals with avoidant attachment, withdrawal was associated with lower relationship satisfaction and a higher demand partner perceived to a higher extent than in the comparison group. This might explain the lower satisfaction with the relationship of the confined group. The different conflict resolution strategies of the couple mediated between avoidant attachment and relationship satisfaction in both groups (confined and comparison). It is concluded that individuals' attachment orientation is a key factor in how individuals experienced their close relationships during the confinement.

evaluar la satisfacción laboral de profesionales de enfermería actuantes en atención y gestión durante la pandemia de COVID-19. estudio epidemiológico de corte transversal. Participaron 334 profesionales de enfermería de un hospital de enseñanza. Fueron calculadas las frecuencias absolutas y relativas de las variables cualitativas y los promedios de las variables numéricas. Se compararon los promedios de resultados de los dominios de la escala de satisfacción profesional ( Job Satisfaction Survey) con variables sociodemográficaslaborales. Fueron aplicadas las pruebas t de Student, Mann-Whitney, Anova con posprueba de Tukey, Kruskal-Wallis o Dunn para verificar la significancia estadística de los resultados con nivel crítico de 0,05. noventa profesionales se mostraron satisfechos con su trabajo, tres profesionales se mostraron insatisfechos y doscientos cuarenta y un profesionales mostraron ambivalencia. Se evidenció ambivalencia en los trabajadores de enfermería en relación a su satisfacción laboral durante el período de la pandemia de COVID-19. Los hallazgos señalan un camino para que los gestores y formuladores de políticas de salud encaucen inversiones en planes de carrera y ambientes laborales que mejoren las condiciones de los trabajadores de enfermería.

Os achados indicam um caminho para que gerentes e formuladores de política em saúde façam investimentos em planos de carreira e ambiente de trabalho que melhorem as condições de trabalho dos trabalhadores de enfermagem.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: Many rehabilitation services in the face of the COVID-19 health emergency have had to adapt face-to-face interventions with remote care through teleprehabilitation. We aim to describe the implementation of a teleprehabilitation program during the COVID-19 pandemic for patients who are candidates for elective cancer surgery in a low-income Chilean public hospital. Secondarily, describe the perspectives and satisfaction of patients with the program. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Correspond to a descriptive and retrospective pre-habilitation telemedicine intervention study. Implementation was measured in terms of, recruitment rate, retention, dropouts, and occurrence of adverse events. User perspectives and satisfaction were evaluated through a survey composed of nine items on a Likert scale with five response options. Descriptive analyses were considered with mean, standard deviation, minimum, maximum, as well as absolute and relative frequency. For patients' perspectives on the program, a qualitative analysis was considered to describe them. The most relevant domains were identified in a text box to illustrate the results. RESULTS: One hundred fifty-five patients were referred to the teleprehabilitation program, with 99.3% recruitment, a retention rate of 46.7%, and no adverse events reported. In relation to user satisfaction, in general, patients showed good satisfaction with the teleprehabilitation program except items related to "access to the teleprehabilitation program connection" and "number of sessions." Thirty-three patients reported their perspectives on the intervention, represented in 12 domains. CONCLUSION: It is possible to implement a teleprehabilitation program for oncosurgical patients in the context of preoperative care during the COVID-19 pandemic, with good user satisfaction. Likewise, this study provides guidance for other health institutions that wish to implement a teleprehabilitation program.

BACKGROUND: As a global trauma event, the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) hugely impacts people's mental health and well-being. The purpose of our study is threefold: first, investigate the relationship between exposure to COVID-19 and life satisfaction among a large sample in China; second, test the mediating role of hyperarousal in the association between exposure to COVID-19 and life satisfaction; third, explore the moderating/mediating role of affective forecasting in the association between hyperarousal and life satisfaction. METHOD: The current study recruited 5546 participants to complete a set of self-report questionnaires online from April 22, 2020 to April 24, 2020. The moderated mediation and chain mediation model analyses were conducted using the SPSS software and PROCESS macro program. RESULTS: Exposure to COVID-19 negatively predicted life satisfaction (Effect = -0.058, p < 0.001). This relationship was partially mediated by the hyperarousal level (Effect = -0.018, CI = [-0.024, -0.013]). The moderating role of forecasted positive affect (PA)/forecasted negative affect (NA) between hyperarousal and life satisfaction was significant (ß = 0.058, CI = [0.035, 0.081]; ß = 0.037, CI = [0.014, 0.06]). The chain mediating effect of hyperarousal and forecasted PA/forecasted NA on the relationship between exposure to COVID-19 and life satisfaction was also significant (Effect = -0.003, CI = [-0.004, -0.002]; Effect = -0.006, CI = [-0.008, -0.004]). LIMITATIONS: The cross-sectional design precludes causal inference. CONCLUSION: Greater exposure to COVID-19 was associated with more severe hyperarousal symptoms, decreased life satisfaction. Forecasted PA and forecasted NA could moderate and mediate the negative impact of hyperarousal on life satisfaction. The moderating/mediating role of forecasted PA/NA implied that future interventions targeting at improving affective forecasting and reducing hyperarousal might be helpful to improve life satisfaction during the post-COVID-19 era.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: Telehealth has become commonplace in many healthcare systems across the United States. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a large academic medical center in the southeast USA has increased the use of telehealth in the anesthesia department to complete preanesthetic assessments before the patient's surgery. This has allowed high-risk patient populations to limit potential exposure to COVID-19 and limit the financial burden of traveling from neighboring counties to complete their preanesthetic assessment in person. The purpose of this quality improvement project was to evaluate the effectiveness of a preanesthetic assessment via telehealth among patients undergoing anesthesia. DESIGN: A quality improvement project. METHODS: Two separate surveys assessing patient and provider satisfaction with telehealth preanesthesia assessments were developed. Patients undergoing anesthesia at the medical center completed a telehealth preanesthesia assessment and received a satisfaction survey via email post-procedure. Certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) who cared for patients that completed a telehealth preanesthesia assessment also received an emailed satisfaction survey. FINDINGS: Results demonstrate high satisfaction scores for both patients and providers. CONCLUSIONS: Current telehealth preanesthetic assessments prompt high satisfaction scores, supporting continued, and expanded use.

BACKGROUND: COVID-19 put older individuals at high risk for morbidity and mortality, isolation, reduced coping, and lower satisfaction with life. Many older adults experienced social isolation, fear, and anxiety. We hypothesized that successful coping with these stressors would maintain or improve satisfaction with life, a crucial psychological outcome during the pandemic. Our study investigated relationships between older people's coping and life satisfaction during the pandemic and their optimism, sense of mastery, closeness with spouse, family, and friends, and vulnerabilities from frailty, comorbid diseases, memory problems, and dependencies in instrumental activities of daily living (IADL). METHODS: The study was based on a special COVID-19 sample of 1351 community-dwelling older adults who participated in the 2020 Health and Retirement Survey. A comprehensive structural equation modeling was used to test direct and indirect effects, with life satisfaction as the main outcome and coping as a mediator between the other variables and coping. RESULTS: Most survey respondents were female and between the ages of 65-74 years. They averaged 1.7 chronic conditions, one in seven was frail, about one-third rated their memory as fair or poor, and about one in seven reported one or more difficulties in IADL. As hypothesized-older people with increased sense of mastery and optimism were better able to cope and had greater life satisfaction. In addition, close relationships with friends and with other family members besides the spouse/partner or children contributed to more successful coping, while the interpersonal closeness of all types contributed directly to greater life satisfaction. Finally, older people with more IADL limitations reported greater difficulty coping and lower life satisfaction, and those older people who were frail or had multiple comorbid diseases reported lower life satisfaction. CONCLUSIONS: Optimism, sense of mastery and closeness with family/friends promotes coping and life satisfaction, whereas frailty and comorbidities make coping more challenging and lead to lower life satisfaction particularly during a pandemic. Our study improves on prior research because of its nationally representative sample and formal specification and testing of a comprehensive theoretical framework.

ABSTRACT

During the COVID-19 pandemic, rumors were shared widely and quickly, leading to unfortunate consequences. To explore the dominant motivation underlying such rumor sharing behavior and the potential consequences for sharers' life satisfaction, two studies were conducted. Study 1 was based on representative popular rumors that circulated throughout Chinese society during the pandemic to examine the dominant motivation underlying rumor sharing behavior. Study 2 employed a longitudinal design to further test the dominant motivation underlying rumor sharing behavior and its effects on life satisfaction. The results of these two studies generally supported our hypotheses that people chose to share rumors during the pandemic mainly for the purpose of fact-finding. Regarding the effects of rumor sharing behavior on life satisfaction, although sharing wish rumors (i.e., rumors expressing hopes) had no effect on sharers' life satisfaction, sharing dread rumors (i.e., rumors reflecting fears) and aggression rumors (i.e., rumors implying aggression and hatred) reduced sharers' life satisfaction. This research lends support to the integrative model of rumor and provides practical implications for mitigating the spread of rumors.

In recent years, couples have been affected by health measures related to COVID-19, a circumstance that forces us to examine couple interactions in terms of crucial variables of their functioning. In this sense, the present study aimed to examine the association between love, jealousy, satisfaction, and violence in young couples through network analysis. A total of 834 young people and adults between 18 and 38 years of age (Mean = 20.97, SD = 2.39) participated; 646 women (77.50%) and 188 men (22.50%), who completed the Sternberg's love scale (STLS-R), Brief Jealousy Scale (BJS), Relationship Assessment Scale (RAS) and Woman Abuse Screening Tool (WAST-2). A partial unregularized network was estimated using the ggmModSelect function. The Bridge Strength index was calculated because the aim was to identify the bridge nodes between the variables under study. The results reveal that two nodes of the love variable, Commitment, and Intimacy, had a direct and moderate relationship with the Satisfaction node. The latter is the central node in the network. However, in the male group, the most intense associations are in Satisfaction-Intimacy, Violence-Passion, Jealousy-Commitment. It is concluded that there are relevant connections between the nodes of the network, which invite further research on couple relationships after the COVID-19 pandemic.

OBJECTIVES: We hypothesized that an association exists between satisfaction with ED mental health care delivery and patient and system characteristics. Primary: To evaluate overall satisfaction with ED mental health care delivery. Secondary: To explore aspects of ED mental health care delivery associated with general satisfaction, and patient and ED visit characteristic associated with total satisfaction scores and reported care experience themes. METHODS: We enrolled patients < 18 years of age presenting with a mental health concern between February 1, 2020 and January 31, 2021, to two pediatric EDs in Alberta, Canada. Satisfaction data were collected using the Service Satisfaction Scale, a measure of global satisfaction with mental health services. Association of general satisfaction with ED mental health care was evaluated using Pearson's correlation coefficient and variables associated with total satisfaction score was assessed using multivariable regression analyses. Inductive thematic analysis of qualitative feedback identified satisfaction and patient experience themes. RESULTS: 646 participants were enrolled. 71.2% were Caucasian and 56.3% female. Median age was 13 years (IQR 11-15). Parents/caregivers (n = 606) and adolescents (n = 40) were most satisfied with confidentiality and respect in the ED and least satisfied with how ED services helped reduce symptoms and/or problems. General satisfaction was associated with perceived amount of help received in the ED (r = 0.85) and total satisfaction with evaluation by a mental health team member (p = 0.004) and psychiatrist consultation (p = 0.05). Comments demonstrated satisfaction with ED provider attitudes and interpersonal skills and dissatisfaction with access to mental health and addictions care, wait time, and the impact of COVID-19. CONCLUSIONS: There is a need to improve ED mental health care delivery, with a focus on timely access to ED mental health providers. Access to outpatient/community-based mental health care is needed to complement care received in the ED and to provide continuity of care for youth with mental health concerns.


RéSUMé: OBJECTIFS: Nous avons émis l'hypothèse qu'il existe un lien entre la satisfaction à l'égard de la prestation de soins de santé mentale aux urgences et les caractéristiques des patients et du système. Primaire : Évaluer la satisfaction globale à l'égard de la prestation des soins de santé mentale aux urgences. Secondaire : Explorer les aspects de la prestation des soins de santé mentale aux urgences associés à la satisfaction générale, et les caractéristiques du patient et de la visite aux urgences associées aux scores de satisfaction totale et aux thèmes d'expérience de soins signalés. MéTHODES: Nous avons inscrit des patients de moins de 18 ans présentant un problème de santé mentale entre le 1er février 2020 et le 31 janvier 2021 à deux services d'urgence pédiatriques en Alberta, au Canada. Les données relatives à la satisfaction ont été recueillies à l'aide de l'échelle de satisfaction du service, une mesure de la satisfaction globale à l'égard des services de santé mentale. L'association entre la satisfaction générale et les soins de santé mentale dispensés aux urgences a été évaluée à l'aide du coefficient de corrélation de Pearson et les variables associées au score total de satisfaction ont été évaluées à l'aide d'analyses de régression multivariables. L'analyse thématique inductive des commentaires qualitatifs a permis d'identifier des thèmes liés à la satisfaction et à l'expérience des patients. Les parents/aidants (n = 606) et les adolescents (n = 40) étaient les plus satisfaits de la confidentialité et du respect à l'urgence et les moins satisfaits de la façon dont les services d'urgence ont contribué à réduire les symptômes et/ou les problèmes. La satisfaction générale était associée à la perception de l'aide reçue aux urgences (r = 0,85) et à la satisfaction totale à l'égard de l'évaluation par un membre de l'équipe de santé mentale (p = 0,004) et de la consultation d'un psychiatre (p = 0,05). CONCLUSIONS: Il est nécessaire d'améliorer la prestation des soins de santé mentale aux urgences, en mettant l'accent sur l'accès en temps opportun aux fournisseurs de services de santé mentale des services d'urgence. L'accès à des soins de santé mentale en consultation externe ou en milieu communautaire est nécessaire pour compléter les soins reçus aux urgences et pour assurer la continuité des soins aux jeunes ayant des problèmes de santé mentale.

ABSTRACT

COVID-19 catalyzed telehealth practice creating opportunities for clients and providers to discern best applications. Parent satisfaction with services supports partnership within therapy processes, potentially augmenting outcomes. We examined parent satisfaction levels and experiences with the telehealth approach of a parent coaching intervention for families of children with special health care needs (CSHCNs). We used a mixed-methods descriptive design. Fifteen parents completed the Telehealth Usability Questionnaire (TUQ) and a semistructured interview. We analyzed TUQ ratings using descriptive statistics, and we thematically analyzed participants' telehealth experiences. Parents found telehealth useful, easy to use, effective, reliable, and satisfactory. Parents described that telehealth addressed needs conveniently, enhanced parent-provider communication, and fostered shared parent involvement. Telehealth appears to be a satisfactory occupational therapy service delivery approach for parents of CSHCN. Findings build preliminary evidence for understanding for whom telehealth is well suited, supporting determination of relevant, fundable telehealth services.

ABSTRACT: This article highlights the development and implementation of interactive training experiences for graduate nursing students as part of specialty training in endocrinology. Emphasis was placed on accomplishing the shift from on-campus to virtual training while maintaining fidelity and student satisfaction. A total of 106 graduate nursing students from five cohorts submitted evaluations. Student satisfaction remained high regardless of whether the content was delivered in person or virtually. Most students in the virtual cohorts evaluated the online training positively. Student presentation grades were highest with on-campus delivery. Transitioning in-person training to a virtual environment can be an effective method of delivering nurse practitioner education while promoting student satisfaction. Recommendations for optimizing hybrid learning experiences are offered based on adult learning principles.

ABSTRACT

The first wave of the COVID pandemic was the most challenging for employed parents, and more specifically for women. In Québec, research has shown a deterioration in the psychological health of parents in the early weeks of the pandemic. In this research, we investigate how Québec parents who remained employed during the lockdown in 2020 perceived their work-family balance in the stressful context of new earning and caregiving constraints, drawing on survey data collected in May 2020. Our approach integrates insights from psychological, managerial and sociological literatures. We find that most parents who remained employed found their work-family balance "easy" in the first months of the pandemic, but women felt less satisfied with their work-family balance than men as well as those whose employers were less understanding and supportive, and those whose workloads increased. The implications of these results are discussed in the light of previous studies on work-family intersections, to show that gender continues to matter when family members are faced with extraordinary circumstances such as the closing of childcare and schools, even in the egalitarian context of Québec, where fathers are perceived as legitimate caregivers.


La première vague de la pandémie de COVID a été la plus difficile pour les employés avec des enfants, et plus particulièrement pour les femmes. Au Québec, la recherche a révélé une détérioration de la santé psychologique des parents au Québec dans les premières semaines de la pandémie. Dans cette recherche, nous examinons la manière dont les parents québécois demeurés en emploi pendant le confinement en 2020 ont perçu leur conciliation emploi-famille dans le contexte stressant de nouvelles contraintes en matière de revenus et de prestation de soins, en nous appuyant sur les données d'enquête recueillies en mai 2020. Notre approche intègre des notions issues de la littérature en gestion, en psychologie et en sociologie. Nos résultats montrent que la plupart des parents qui ont conservé leur emploi ont perçu leur conciliation emploi-famille comme étant « facile ¼ au cours des premiers mois de la pandémie, mais que les femmes se sont senties moins satisfaites de leur conciliation emploi-famille que les hommes, ainsi que ceux dont les employeurs ont été moins compréhensifs et moins coopératifs, et ceux dont la charge de travail a augmenté. Les implications de ces résultats sont discutées à la lumière d'études antérieures sur les intersections emploi-famille, pour montrer que le genre continue d'avoir de l'importance lorsque les membres de la famille sont confrontés à des circonstances extraordinaires telles que la fermeture des services de garde et des écoles, même dans le contexte égalitaire du Québec, où les pères sont perçus comme des dispensateurs de soins légitimes.

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to clarify the association between changes in satisfaction with meaningful activities and the occurrence of depressive symptoms before and during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. DESIGN: A population-based prospective cohort study (Tarumizu Study). SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS: A total of 231 community-dwelling older adults aged ≥65 years without depressive symptoms at baseline. METHODS: The participants completed baseline (June to December 2018, before the COVID-19 pandemic) and follow-up (September to December 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic) assessments. Depressive symptoms were assessed using the 15-item Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS-15) and defined by a GDS-15 score of ≥5. Participants selected meaningful activities from the 95 activities included in the Aid for Decision-Making in Occupation Choice, and their satisfaction levels were evaluated. Satisfaction with the most meaningful activities was assessed as to whether it was maintained/improved or decreased at follow-up. RESULTS: In the follow-up survey, 31 (14.3%) participants reported the occurrence of depressive symptoms. Compared with before the COVID-19 pandemic, the rates of meaningful activities during the COVID-19 pandemic decreased for interpersonal interaction and social life and increased for leisure, sports, self-care, and domestic life. Logistic regression analysis revealed that changes in satisfaction with meaningful activity were associated with the occurrence of depressive symptoms after adjusting for demographic variables, baseline GDS scores, cognitive and physical status, and instrumental activities of daily living (odds ratio, 2.78; 95% confidence interval, 1.17-6.59, P = .020). CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS: To avoid decreasing satisfaction with meaningful activities, supporting older adults may be protective against the occurrence of depressive symptoms. Our findings highlight the need for health care professionals to not only encourage older adults to participate in activities for their mental health but also consider whether the activities are meaningful or satisfying for them.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To review satisfaction with telehealth among children and adolescents based on their own opinions during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: In the PubMed, CINAHL, PsycINFO, and Embase databases, we searched for peer-reviewed studies in English on satisfaction with telehealth among children and adolescents (rather than parents). Both observational studies and interventions were eligible. The review was categorized as a mini review because it focused on the limited time frame of the COVID-19 pandemic. We followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. Reviewers extracted information from each study and assessed risk of bias. Results: A total of 14 studies were eligible. Studies were conducted in Australia, Canada, Italy, Israel, Poland, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and the United States. They focused on a variety of health conditions. Two of the 14 studies were interventions. Participants expressed high satisfaction with video and telephone visits and home telemonitoring while also preferring a combination of in-person visits and telehealth services. Factors associated with higher satisfaction with telehealth included greater distance from the medical center, older age, and lower anxiety when using telehealth. In qualitative studies, preferred telehealth features among participants included: a stable Internet connection and anonymity and privacy during telehealth visits. Conclusion: Telehealth services received favorable satisfaction ratings by children and adolescents. Randomized-controlled trials on the effectiveness of pediatric telehealth services compared to non-telehealth services may assess improvements in satisfaction and health outcomes.

ABSTRACT

The human toll which has resulted from the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic is clearly recognised. No single event in recent times has had such profound effects on health services and their staff wellbeing around the world. Policy making has been led by the requirement for confinement and surveillance to limit spread of the disease, and in clinical settings the impact of the necessity for the use of personal protective measures has caused huge strains on practice clinically and professionally. In this paper we share experiences from the pandemic, explore the social and organisational factors at stake and make some suggestions for both personal wellbeing practice and a systems response to the ongoing staff wellbeing challenges of the pandemic.

INTRODUCTION: The COVID-19 pandemic impacted profoundly on the wellbeing and social interactions of the world population, and all dimensions of sexual health were potentially affected by globally implemented preventive measures. OBJECTIVES: The scoping review aimed to compile existing research investigating possible effects of COVID-19 lockdowns on adult sexual health, that is, sexual behavior, functioning, and satisfaction. Further, studies on the interplay between mental health and sexual well-being during the pandemic were reviewed. METHODS: The review was conducted in accordance with guidelines established by the Joanna Briggs Institute and the Extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) Checklist. On October 11-12, 2021, PubMed, Embase, PsycInfo, Cinahl, Cochrane, Sociological Abstracts and Scopus were systematically searched for relevant peer-reviewed papers employing quantitative methodology. Additionally, unpublished ("grey") research studies on the subject were retrieved. The screening, data extraction, and analysis of evidence were conducted by 4 independent reviewers using an iterative approach. RESULTS: Based on 107 studies included, the scoping review showed that the pandemic had had a wide impact on all dimensions of sexual health. Except for solo sex activities, mainly negative COVID-19 implications were identified, although findings were, in sum, characterized by complexity and unpredictability. Thus, sexual behavior, functioning, and satisfaction during the pandemic appeared to be mitigated by a broad range of sociodemographic and contextual factors. Finally, sexual health seemed deeply entwined with overall mental health. CONCLUSION: The scoping review revealed a broad range of COVID-19-related effects on sexual health, including an overall decline in partnered sex and a concurrent increase in solo sex activities. It also emphasized a need for future research to shed light on possible long-term consequences of the pandemic in various population groups and on all aspects of sexual health.

BACKGROUND: Real-world evidence on experience and satisfaction of ofatumumab as a treatment option for relapsing multiple sclerosis (RMS) is limited. OBJECTIVE: To present cumulative responses from a questionnaire related to first-hand experience of treating physicians on handling and convenience of ofatumumab therapy along with concerns related to COVID-19. METHODS: PERITIA was a multicentre survey conducted to collect responses from the ASCLEPIOS I/II trial investigators from Europe via an online questionnaire. RESULTS: Forty-six physicians (Germany, n = 14; Spain, n = 12; Portugal, n = 10; Italy, n = 10) completed the survey. Overall, 43% of the physicians considered the benefit-risk ratio of ofatumumab as very good. Over 93% were in favour of ofatumumab self-administration at home and the majority (83%) believed it to be completely true that self-administration of ofatumumab eases the burden for patients in terms of time. All investigators would like to potentially use anti-CD20 therapy as a long-term strategy. Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, physicians were in favour of a self-administration of MS therapy at home over other anti-CD20 therapy infusions. CONCLUSION: European neurologists who were part of this survey considered the benefit-risk-ratio of ofatumumab as favourable and the monthly self-administered subcutaneous injections offering convenience for patients in the clinical practice.
